MD24WS

Thermador MD24WS

What we most often repair on units like this

  1. A worn glide or drive motor may leave the drawer dragging, slow to open, or short of the fully seated position the door switch needs
  2. Condensation can cause trouble in the touch-open sensor or the keypad
  3. With no turntable, the drawer relies on a rotating antenna or stirrer, and wear there can cause uneven heating

Drawer microwaves sit under a counter or inside a cabinet run at a height that is easy to reach, and the MD24WS is the 24-inch version in gray glass. Thermador’s product page describes 1500 watts on 120V/15A, an interior of 1.2 cu. ft. with room for a 20 oz. cup, and Sensor Cook, which chooses time and power itself.

There is no door to wear, so the weak spot is the drawer itself, riding on glide rails and driven by a motor. A drawer that opens sluggishly, catches partway, or stops short of fully closed never lets the safety switch see it shut, and the microwave won’t run.

The touch-sense opening and the control panel dislike condensation too, in line with Thermador’s documented E11 keypad condition on its built-in microwaves. We inspect the glides and motor first, then the sensors.

MD24WSMD24WS questions
My drawer opens slowly and sometimes sticks. Why?

The glide rails or the drive motor are probably wearing. A drawer that binds also may not seat fully, so the door switch is never satisfied and the microwave will not run.

Why does a drawer microwave have no turntable?

It does not need one. Food sits still while a rotating antenna or stirrer spreads the energy. If that part wears, heating becomes uneven even though the drawer works.

The touch-to-open stopped responding. What happened?

Condensation can reach the touch sensor and the panel, just as it does with keypads on Thermador's other built-in microwaves. Dry the glass, cycle the breaker, and call us if it stays dead.
