Thermador T36IR900SP

What we most often repair on units like this

  1. Touch display that will not respond while the compressor keeps running
  2. SoftClose that no longer draws the door shut
  3. Lettuce and herbs freezing at the rear of the bins
  4. Legs settling into the floor so the door swings open

A full 36 inches of fresh-food storage and nothing else: that is the T36IR900SP, a Freedom column that Thermador now lists as discontinued. It came after the 800 generation and was replaced by the T36IR905SP. SuperCool pulls the temperature down quickly after a big grocery run, and SoftClose doors draw themselves shut.

Leveling on all legs arrived with this generation, which makes setting the column straight easier. On a soft or settling floor, though, the legs can sink and the door will stop closing under its own weight, so we raise the legs and recheck the swing before touching the SoftClose mechanism. Thermador still maintains a service page for the model. We then test the cold-air outlets behind the produce bins, since vegetables freezing at the back point to them.

T36IR900SPT36IR900SP questions
Can parts still be found for this discontinued column?

Often, yes, though it varies by part. Thermador still publishes documents for it, and we match parts using the FD number printed on the rating plate inside the cabinet.

Why do vegetables in the back of the bin turn icy?

The rear of each bin sits nearest the cold-air outlets. A temperature set too low, or a control that keeps an outlet open, lets the coldest air reach the produce.

The door swings open on its own. Is SoftClose broken?

Check leveling before blaming the mechanism. If the column leans forward because the legs have settled, the door will drift open, and a quick adjustment often fixes it.
