Thermador WDC36J
Forty-eight plates fit in the WDC36J, which makes it the wide format of this drawer family and a natural partner to a large wall oven or a dining-room built-in used for entertaining. The cavity is 3.1 cu. ft., about 29 3/8 inches wide inside, so the drawer front is long and wide, and the two rails must keep it square as it slides.
Width is the weak point. A drawer this long can rack if one rail wears faster than the other, and you will notice it as binding or a front that no longer lines up. On the heat side, a wide cavity can develop an uneven warm zone if part of the heater fails, which we check with a thermometer at both ends.
It has four settings (High, Medium, Low and Plate) with no Proof mode and no timer. The 120 volt plug and 72 inch cord keep the electrical side simple. We give you a written price first and test every setting before we leave.
A little difference is normal, but a clearly cold end suggests part of the heater has failed. We measure temperature at both ends of the 3.1 cu. ft. cavity and test the element.
A wide drawer can rack if the rails wear unevenly. We check both rails, the rollers and the mounting, then realign or replace them as needed.
The listing says 48 dinner plates. Heavier loads strain the rails and rollers, so if the drawer drags with a full stack of dinnerware, we inspect and adjust the glides.
