Thermador MB30WP

What we most often repair on units like this

  1. A drop-down door with tired hinges or poor alignment may leave the door switch unable to register a complete closure, and the microwave won't start
  2. Once condensation gets into the control panel, the keypad and touch controls can go silent
  3. Uneven heating, or a turntable that no longer turns, comes from a worn motor, coupler or roller ring

Professional-collection kitchens pair this microwave with a wall oven or a tall cabinet, and its drop-down door is the first thing to wear. Thermador’s product page gives it a 1.6 cu. ft. interior and 1750 watts from an ordinary 120V/15A circuit, and the opening in the cabinet needs to be roughly 19-1/4 inches tall, 28-1/2 wide and 19-1/4 deep.

When the MB30WP will not start, our first look is at the door. A drop-down that does not close flush leaves the interlock switch unsatisfied, and the oven acts as if the door were open. Next come the touchscreen panel, which does not like steam or condensation, and the turntable drive, whose motor, coupler and roller ring wear in turn.

Rarely is the magnetron the culprit. If a numeric error code shows, Thermador’s own advice is to write it down, cut power at the breaker, and give that code when you book service, and we ask for exactly that.

MB30WPMB30WP questions
Why won't it start when the door looks shut?

A drop-down door that is slightly out of line, or a worn hinge, can keep the interlock switch from sensing a full seal. We check the hinge and switch before looking at heating parts.

Does the touchscreen mind steam from the oven below?

It can. Steam and condensation reaching the control panel are a documented cause of unresponsive keypads. Drying the panel and cycling power at the breaker is the first thing to try.

What should I tell you about an error code?

Give us the exact code as shown, and say whether it came up while heating or at start-up. Cutting power at the breaker first, as Thermador suggests, keeps things safe until we arrive.
