Thermador MBES (An American Icon)
Some kitchens remodeled in the 2000s and 2010s still hold the MBES, the stainless one of three finishes that also included the MBEB in black and the MBEW in white. ManualsLib carries the shared manual, dated 2012, and lists the product as a real Thermador microwave oven, a predecessor of the drop-down MB30WP and MB30WS now sold.
Age matters more than collection here. We expect wear in the parts that move and carry current: the door hinge, latch and interlock switch, a keypad that has begun to fail intermittently, and the turntable drive. After more than a decade, the magnetron and high-voltage diode become candidates as well, and a unit this age deserves an honest conversation about whether the repair price makes sense.
Online spec sheets for this vintage have disappeared, so we read the wattage and cavity size from the plate fixed inside the door, and only then order a part. That small step protects you from paying for a part that does not fit. We also tell you plainly which repairs are worth making.
Usually the hinge, the latch or the interlock switch. If the unit cannot tell that the door is closed, it will not start, so we check them first on a microwave this old.
Spec sheets for this older unit are hard to find, so wattage and cavity size cannot be looked up easily. The plate inside the door tells us exactly what we are working on.
Sometimes. A door switch or keypad is a modest repair, while a magnetron or high-voltage part costs more. We give you the written price and an honest view of the age.
