West of Galveston Bay, Hitchcock spread out along the Santa Fe railroad across open prairie, and a Navy blimp base operated nearby during World War II. Today the town feels roomier than the I-45 corridor, with bigger yards and lighter traffic around its kitchens.
What turns up in Hitchcock homes, and how that affects a Thermador repair in this area.
Lent M. Hitchcock gave the town its name in the 1870s after his widow donated land for the townsite, though settlers had arrived around 1846. Rail service fueled the early years; a Navy blimp base arrived in the 1940s, and the town became a city in 1960. Housing today is mostly single-family on generous lots.
The Gulf Coast Water Authority sells treated water to Hitchcock, piping it along Highway 6 from its plant in Texas City. Because the source is the Brazos River, taste and mineral content can drift a little with river conditions, which can show up as film on dishwasher glassware or a change in ice quality.
Highland Bayou winds across the area toward the bay, and the open prairie gives roofs and garages long hours of direct sun. From May through October, a refrigerator or freezer that lives in a garage or shed without insulation labors much harder than one inside the kitchen.
In Hitchcock we work on Thermador dishwashers in remodeled kitchens, plus ranges, rangetops and wall ovens in newer houses. Freedom column refrigeration and built-in refrigerators are on our list too wherever a kitchen has been fully redone.
Getting to Hitchcock means leaving I-45 for Highway 6; the town is a next-day stop for us in western Galveston County. Yards are bigger than in Texas City or La Marque, so tell us at booking if the unit is in the kitchen, a garage apartment or an outbuilding. That tells us what to load in the van.
For a summer cooling complaint, we begin with airflow. Dust and pet hair packed onto the condenser or fan is the usual cause, especially beside an open garage door, and vacuuming the coil behind the bottom grille is a fair first step before you call. A warm fresh-food section with a cold freezer points to frost over the evaporator, so we test the defrost heater, thermostat and control board in turn, then show you which part failed.
Heat, a dusty condenser or a blocked fan top the list, and a hot garage makes each worse. We clean the coil, check fan and gasket, and test the temperature controls before suggesting anything bigger.
Frost covering the evaporator is the first suspect, since it chokes airflow into the fresh-food section. We test the defrost heater, sensor and control in order and name the part that failed before replacing anything.
Country addresses outside town, toward Santa Fe or La Marque, ride along on the same trip. Give us the street address and a nearby landmark and we will confirm a time.
