On a Freedom freezer column that has an ice dispenser, E33 appears and the dispenser no longer works the way it should. Thermador's literature does not list the code, but technicians and owners generally relate it to the dispenser: cubes get wedged in the drop chute, which leaves the little membrane flap at the chute unable to shut.
1. Take out the ice bin. 2. Look into the chute for cubes fused into a clump and let it thaw. 3. Remove the clump, then dispense and listen for the soft thunk of the flap closing. 4. Keep the freezer door shut so new cubes are not melted and refrozen.
Humid room air getting in through a door that does not seal, or through the chute, melts the surface of the cubes, and they refreeze as one solid block.
Not before the chute and flap are cleared and checked. Owners most often report a simple blockage as the cause rather than a dead ice maker.
After you dispense, a soft thunk should signal the flap dropping shut. Silence, or a flap that stays partly open, suggests ice or the mechanism is in the way.
