Thermador HMDW36WS
Because the HMDW36WS is a 36″ insert, it is most often found behind a plaster, wood or tile hood that a builder framed around a 36″ range. The unit is 35 15/16″ wide but only 12″ deep, which leaves little room around the blower, so a surround that is slightly out of square can pinch the canopy.
Our visit starts with the canopy: a wide slide that racks to one side usually has a dirty or bent track on one end. We then test the damper with the blower on, run the four speeds, and verify that the duct leaves the insert without a tight bend. If it was converted to recirculation, we confirm the filters match.
Thermador lists this one as part of its catalog without a current status mark, so we confirm the exact model label inside the unit before ordering anything. Parts are quoted in writing first.
A wide canopy depends on both tracks moving evenly. A dirty or bent track at one end causes racking. We clean, align and, if needed, price a replacement track.
The electrical and blower checks are the same, but access is harder because the surround hides it. We plan for that and tell you in advance if cabinetry has to be opened.
The hood usually needs to be paired again with the network. We reset the connection, confirm Hood Sync with an induction cooktop if you have one, and test all four speeds.
