Thermador PH48HWS
For a 48″ range with no need for a warming lamp, the PH48HWS is the plain, 24″ deep wall hood Thermador sells to match it. Fewer features means fewer things to go wrong, but it also means the hood relies completely on the quality of the ducting.
Our check follows the air: we begin at the damper, which also keeps outside air from coming back in when the hood is off, then follow the duct to the exterior. A draft in winter or a smell from outside often points to a damper that does not close. Next come the baffle filters, which should be washed regularly, and the trough beneath them.
We run all four speeds, listen to the Powerfully Quiet System at low settings, and check the LEDs and touch controls. With its 47 15/16″ width, we also confirm the hood is level so grease drains toward the trough. A written quote precedes any repair.
A damper that doesn't close fully lets outside air in. We check the flap and its hinge and clean or replace it. That also helps the blower reach full airflow when running.
Thermador lists a heat lamp, Wi-Fi and a 27" depth on the PH48GWS. The PH48HWS is 24" deep with standard LED lighting. We check the label so the right parts are used.
They are washable stainless steel, so cleaning is usually enough. We only suggest replacement when a frame is bent or a filter will not seat.
