Thermador HMWB30WS
At 11 inches tall, the HMWB30WS is a low-profile hood, and that profile is the point: it fits where a taller canopy would crowd the cabinetry above a 30-inch range. Thermador sells it today as part of the Masterpiece line, with Wi-Fi, Hood Sync and a quiet system that the page says reduces noise up to 35%.
What we notice first is the filter. This model uses mesh filters rather than baffles, and mesh clogs more quickly on a home that fries or sears. Poor capture on a hood this shallow, 23 1/8 inches deep, usually starts there.
It can be ducted outside or set up for recirculation, so on arrival we find out which way it is installed. In recirculation mode a charcoal kit is involved and the airflow path is different. We then check the damper, the touch panel and the Wi-Fi connection, in that order, because each can mimic the others.
It can be either. We look at the installation to see which one you have, since airflow checks and filter needs differ between the two setups.
We check whether the panel and the blower both receive power and whether the board responds. Moisture or grease on the panel surface is also ruled out.
The clean filter reminder tells you, and a weaker pull or louder fan tells you as well. Keep to the schedule in your manual. It is a good habit.
