Thermador UCVM36FS
This one is for the wider cooktop. At 36 1/2 inches across and 34 1/2 inches tall, the UCVM36FS rises behind the burners and has to reach the outer edges of a 36-inch top with only 3 3/4 inches of thickness. Edge burners sit farthest from the blower, so steam from them is the first to get past.
It uses three rotary switches and has no damper, filter reminder, delay shut off or heat lamp. In practice that makes diagnosis direct: speed one, two and three should each give a different sound and draw, and if one does not, the switch or the motor winding is the issue.
We look at the aluminum-frame cassette filter first, then the duct. If it is set to recirculate, a clogged outlet is a typical cause of poor performance. Thermador lists the model as no longer available with no successor given.
Often, yes, since the intake is in the middle. A clean filter and a clear duct give the best result the design allows. It helps to set pots on the inner burners for tall cookware.
Either the rotary switch lost contact in that position or the motor winding has failed. We measure at the blower to tell which. Replacing a switch is a modest job, a motor much larger.
It is designed to be convertible, but the outlet path and filter must be right. We can set it up and check the airflow. Please let us do it.
