Thermador PH42GWT
Where the PH42GS uses plain push-buttons, the PH42GWT swaps in illuminated buttons and touch control, and it adds a damper plus four speeds. The step up shows in the service list: the touch area can fail where a mechanical switch would just wear, and the damper brings an extra moving part into the duct.
It is a 42-inch Professional hood with a 27-inch-deep canopy and 30 inches of clearance, a good match for a pro-style range with a wider top. Owners often tell us the touch buttons work only some of the time, usually on days when the kitchen is humid or the panel has grease on it. We clean the surface and then test the board.
Thermador no longer lists the PH42GWT as available and gives no successor. That makes careful diagnosis more important, because we want to fix what is actually wrong. The clean filter reminder and delay shut off are tested with the rest of the controls.
Grease or moisture on the surface can cause it, and so can an aging panel. We clean it first, then test the board. Humid days make it more noticeable.
It closes the duct to keep outside air from coming back. If it is stuck open or closed, the hood will be noisy or weak.
No. The specification lists four fan speeds and no boost, so the top speed is the highest setting. Nothing is missing, and the top speed is the highest setting the hood has.
