What F2 means

In the middle of cooking, a zone shuts off and F2 appears. Thermador says the electronics beneath the glass got too hot, so the cooktop cut power to protect itself. On induction models the same overheated-electronics wording is shared by F4, E7015, E8207 and E8208, so the family of codes all describe heat rather than a single broken part.

Usual causes of F2

  • Long stretches of high-heat cooking that warmed the electronics
  • Little airflow under the cooktop because the cabinet space is crowded or blocked
  • A cooling part failing if F2 returns even after light use
✓ A safe check worth trying

1. Turn off the zones and let the cooktop rest until the glass and surroundings cool. 2. Make sure nothing is stored directly beneath it that could block air. 3. Touch a control element to resume once the code has cleared by itself. 4. If it comes back soon, stop and call.

! Why you should stop here
  • When F2 appears again after a normal cooling pause, the heat is no longer coming from your cooking, and resetting past it only strains the electronics.
  • Checking the cooling path means opening the unit beside high-voltage parts.
Taking off a panel yourself does not by default void a manufacturer warranty, yet it can lead to accidental damage, and some manufacturers attach their own service terms. Read your warranty paperwork, or ask us, before you decide.

F2F2 questions
How much time should pass before I touch the controls again?

Thermador gives no fixed number. The instruction is to let the cooktop cool and then touch a control. If the code lingers, it simply has not cooled enough yet. That means patience is the only dial: touch a control after the glass feels cool, and wait longer if the code is still showing.

Does F2 mean something could catch fire?

The shutdown is the protection doing its job. The concern is only when it keeps happening, because repeated overheating suggests the cooling needs attention. Treat repeated shutdowns during light cooking as the warning sign that deserves an inspection, not the single one.

Is F2 the same on electric and induction cooktops?

The meaning is the same, overheated electronics. On induction, Thermador just groups it with several related codes, and the first steps are alike. Mentioning the pattern to a technician helps.
