Thermador PH36HS
Compare it with a PH36GS and you notice the difference right away: the PH36HS is only 24 inches deep and needs 30 inches of clearance, so it sits lower and closer to the cooktop. That suits a kitchen with a lower ceiling or a standard-depth range, and it also means the baffles work in hotter air.
Controls use LED push-buttons, with delay shut off and a boost setting in addition to three regular speeds. When the LED display does not match what the fan is doing, the problem is generally behind the panel rather than in the motor, so we check the switch board and its harness first.
There is no damper on this model and no reminder that the filters need washing. We therefore ask about outside drafts and about how often the baffles come out of the hood. Thermador lists PH36HWS as the manufacturer successor for anyone who needs to compare parts.
The panel may be powered while the motor circuit is open. We test voltage at the motor and capacitor side to see whether the board, a switch or the motor is the cause.
Sitting closer to the burners means they take in more grease, so many owners wash them more often. Look at them whenever the draw seems weaker.
Without a damper some back-flow can occur. If it is strong, the outside cap is the first place we look. A stuck cap flap or a missing flap altogether lets cold or humid air walk straight back down.
