Thermador PH48GS
A 48-inch hood normally tops a pro-style range with six burners or a griddle, a setup that pushes a lot of heat and grease upward. The PH48GS has three speeds and a boost setting for that load, and it is built for a duct run that can carry the volume. A long or restricted duct is the most frequent cause when owners tell us a hood this wide cannot keep up.
The wider the hood, the longer the blower housing and the more baffles to clean. We pull each baffle and look at the channel behind it, since oil collects there where the bare eye does not reach.
This model has neither a damper nor a clean filter reminder. We ask how long since the baffles were washed and whether a draft has been felt. Thermador lists PH48GWS as the manufacturer successor if you need to check a replacement panel against the original.
The duct has to be sized and routed to carry the airflow. We check its diameter, length and elbows during the visit, because a restriction limits even a strong blower.
It depends on how you cook. If you sear or fry often, check them monthly. Without a reminder on this model, a visual check is your best guide.
It spins the blower faster. A change in tone can mean a loose wheel or built-up grease, which we can find with the baffles out.
