Thermador PH54GS
At 54 inches this is one of the widest wall hoods in the PH line, and the size is the first thing that shapes how we service it. The canopy is a long, heavy box, so removing the blower or the panel means supporting the front edge. Thermador lists VCIN54JP as its manufacturer successor, which is an integrated style rather than a canopy, so the original parts are what a PH54GS needs.
Controls are plain push-buttons for three speeds, with boost and delay shut off. There is no damper and no reminder when baffles fill up. In a kitchen where the hood runs daily, the baffles can build up grease long before anyone notices the pull has weakened.
Clearance of 36 inches over the cooktop is required, so the hood sits fairly high, and its draw depends on the size of the duct. We measure the duct, check the cap, and test the three speeds and boost one after another.
It is heavier and longer, so we plan for support while a panel or blower is out. The checks themselves are the same: filters, switches, blower, duct.
Thermador names it as the successor, but it is a different design. We match parts to the PH54GS itself. Dimensions, mounting and control layout differ, so a swap needs a fresh look at the cabinet.
With the baffles and then the duct and outside cap. Those two account for most weak-draw calls on a wide hood. We start there because both are cheap to check and cost nothing to rule out.
