Thermador VCI3B36ZS

What we most often repair on units like this

  1. Hood vibrating against a wooden surround
  2. Cold draft through the duct when switched off
  3. Light dim after years of heat
  4. Touch control not recognizing taps
  5. Filter reminder remaining lit after cleaning

Despite the 36 in its model number, the VCI3B36ZS body is 32 1/2″ wide, which is why it is built into a surround, not hung over the stove like a canopy. That 4-inch gap on each side matters when a new range is installed and the hood does not fully cover the width of the cooktop.

We look at where it sits relative to the cooktop first, then check whether the blower housing touches the cabinet, which causes the humming owners often describe as a hood problem. The duct is the next stop, since there is no damper and any cold air will come straight down it.

Four fan speeds, delay shut off and Wi-Fi with Hood Sync are tested next. Since the lighting is a low-consumption type, we check it at the lamp connection and not just the switch. Parts are quoted in writing before we proceed.

VCI3B36ZSVCI3B36ZS questions
The hood is 32 1/2" wide but I have a 36" cooktop. Will that work?

It depends on how it was installed and what you cook. If capture is poor at the outer burners, we assess duct and fan first and talk through what could improve it.

Why does my insert hum?

Usually the blower housing is touching the cabinet or the wheel has built-up grease. We isolate the housing and clean the wheel. Hum rarely means the motor itself.

Can the Wi-Fi be set up again?

Yes. If the hood lost its connection, we repeat the pairing and test whether Hood Sync reacts to the cooktop. The whole check takes a short visit and costs nothing extra to try.
