Thermador VCIN54JP
The VCIN54JP is the widest of the JP integrated hoods here, 51 3/4 inches of body inside a 54-inch run, and it is the hood Thermador names as the replacement for the PH54GS canopy. That makes it a common sight in remodels, where an owner trades a wall canopy for a hood built into the cabinets.
The enclosure is the first thing we examine. A big integrated body depends on solid support and on a duct that leaves the cabinet in a straight line. If the duct bends sharply just above the hood, even a good blower runs against resistance, and the fan sound changes with each speed.
Everything else is straightforward: three speeds set by LED push-buttons, a damper, delay shut off, and no clean filter reminder. Thermador lists no successor for this model. We test the switch panel at each speed, watch the damper open, and wash the filters if they are loaded, so that the cause of any weak pull is clear before we replace a part.
Thermador lists it as the PH54GS successor. It is an integrated hood, not a canopy, so the install looks quite different. It needs cabinet work to install.
A duct that bends sharply above the hood or a cap that opens poorly is a common cause. We trace the path from the hood to the outside.
Not always. We test the switch and the board output before deciding what to replace. You then pay only for the part that failed, and the price is in writing first.
