Hearing the spark but never seeing a flame is a frequent reason owners phone us about a Thermador range. Here is what usually sits behind it and what to look at first.
When a burner sparks over and over yet never catches, the spark module is doing its job and the trouble is at the point where the spark meets the gas. In our experience the culprit is usually the igniter itself, worn after years of sparking, or a burner port that has become coated with residue so the spark cannot jump cleanly.
The gap the spark has to cross is only a few millimeters. Even a faint layer of cooking oil, or a bit of moisture from a spill that boiled over, can stop the spark short. That film builds up slowly, which is why a burner that lit perfectly last month can start refusing today.
With the range off and every burner cool, you can check the basics yourself:
Once visible cleaning has made no difference, suspicion shifts to the igniter or the spark module that feeds it. Swapping one of those is a focused job, nowhere near a rebuild of the range’s main controls, and replacing the right part is far better than guessing. You can read more about this equipment on our range repair page.
Keep in mind that a burner which lights slowly or only after several attempts is giving an early warning. Dealing with it then is usually simpler than waiting for it to stop lighting entirely, and it spares you a stove that cannot be used on a busy evening.
Book a visit and we will test the igniter and module directly, put our price on paper before we start, and back the repair with our 30-day workmanship warranty.
