On legacy Thermador CT and CMT ovens with the Dreefs control, E3 means the oven temperature sensor reads open, above 5000 ohms, as if the probe wire were broken or unplugged. The control turns heat off in the affected oven only, and the microwave is not affected on combination models. Once the control detects a good sensor again, tweaking the selector cancels the message. The source action is simply to check the sensor.
1. Move the selector to OFF, then give it a small counterclockwise tweak so the alert goes quiet. 2. Wait for the oven to cool before anyone reaches inside. 3. If a second oven is on the same unit, it can still be used. 4. If E3 returns when you start the affected oven, leave it off and call us.
Per the source it turns heat off on the failed oven only. The other oven, and the microwave on combination units, should keep working. If something else dies too, mention it when you call so we can look wider.
It is the resistance limit the control uses. Above it, the control treats the sensor as open and refuses to heat. You do not need a meter; it only tells our technician what to test.
The message can be canceled that way once a good sensor is detected. If it keeps coming back, the sensor, wiring or board still has a problem and we should inspect it.
Our technician checks it in your home and hands you a written price before touching anything.
