A line of text reading Filter is expired. shows on the touchscreen French-door models, and the refrigerator is cooling perfectly well. It is just a reminder that the water filter has reached the end of its life. Thermador asks owners to swap the cartridge twice a year, as soon as the message appears, or sooner if the dispenser starts delivering noticeably less water.
1. Install a fresh water filter cartridge. 2. Go to Filter Management on the display and reset the filter status. 3. Hold a glass under the dispenser and let water run until the stream is smooth and free of air. 4. Pour out the first few glasses if the water looks cloudy.
It still dispenses, but the flow slows as the cartridge clogs. Thermador also points out the filter does not remove bacteria, so it never replaced safe source water.
Possibly. Thermador's guide lists a clogged water filter among the reasons for low ice output, so swapping the cartridge is a sensible first move. If it returns soon after a change, a missed reset is likely.
About every six months, in line with the replacement schedule. If it returns much sooner, the reset step after the last swap was probably skipped.
