PRD486WLHU

Thermador PRD486WLHU

What we most often repair on units like this

  1. Small oven that preheats slowly or cuts out
  2. TFT display touch that is unresponsive in one area
  3. Self-Clean cycle that ends early on the main oven
  4. Burner that sparks but does not catch
  5. Sabbath Mode setting that does not stick

The smaller of the two ovens in this PRD486WLHU is only 1.2 cu ft with four modes, and it is easy to underestimate. In practice it is the one cooks use for sides and warm plates while the 3 cu ft main oven handles the roast, so when it stops heating, the dinner schedule is the first casualty.

We start by running the small cavity alone and watching the element and relay. It shares the 240/208 V, 50 A feed with the rest of the range, which has no plug, so the terminal block is part of the first checks. The main oven offers True Convection and Convection Broil, which we test with the fan running.

The Color TFT display and Home Connect are tested for response and pairing. Thermador lists the PRD486WLHU with no successor named. Burners are cleaned and tested for spark, because a Star burner that is dirty looks like a gas problem when it is not.

PRD486WLHUPRD486WLHU questions
Why would the small oven stop heating while the large one still works?

The two cavities have separate elements, sensors and relays. We test each part in the 1.2 cu ft oven; often a single element or sensor is responsible, not the whole range.

Is the TFT screen replaceable on its own?

Usually the display belongs to the control assembly, so we test the touch layer, connectors and board together. We tell you what is needed and quote in writing before replacing anything.

Can Home Connect be reset without service?

Often you can re-pair through the app after a router change. If the range will not pair at all, we check the module and its connection to the control.
