Thermador PRG364WLG

What we most often repair on units like this

  1. ExtraLow burner that puffs out on the lowest simmer
  2. TFT display that is slow to respond
  3. Gas oven that preheats but cycles the flame off early
  4. Home Connect that does not stay linked
  5. Self-Clean that ends before the cycle is done

Simmering is the test for a range like this one. The PRG364WLG has four ExtraLow burners, meant for holding sauces or melting chocolate at a flame so small that a draft, a partly dirty port or a weak igniter can put it out. When an owner says the burner dies at the lowest setting, we start there.

Four Star burners add up to 94,000 BTU, and the 5.7 cu ft gas oven offers five modes, with Self-Clean and Keep Warm. The oven igniter draws enough current to open the valve, and the sensor tells the control when to cycle the flame, so we test both when the oven struggles to hold temperature.

Control is through a color TFT display with Home Connect, powered from a 120 V, 20 A plug. Thermador lists the PRG364WLG; its older relative PRG364NLG is shown as no longer available. A quick outlet and plug check always comes with the visit.

PRG364WLGPRG364WLG questions
Is a flame that disappears on the lowest setting a gas pressure problem?

Rarely. More often a dirty port, a cap not seated or a draft is responsible. We clean the burner, reseat the cap and check the flame at low setting before measuring pressure.

The oven reaches temperature, then drops. What causes that?

A weak igniter that cools down, or a sensor that reads high, can make the control shut the flame early. We measure igniter current and compare the sensor to a reference probe.

Why would the TFT display be slow after a power cut?

A power interruption can leave the control in an odd state. We reset it, check the plug and outlet, and test the display connections if the lag persists.
