When a legacy 30-inch ESC30 or GSC30 range (electric or gas) displays F1, its safety supervisor has found a bake or broil relay stuck closed, which means an element could be getting power it should not. Pressing Cancel may clear the display, but if the cause is still present, F1 returns after 16 seconds. Newer Thermador ovens use F1 differently.
1. Press Cancel and see whether the display clears. 2. If F1 returns in about 16 seconds, switch the oven off at the control. 3. Turn off the range breaker and leave it off until we arrive. 4. Do not keep trying to bake or broil in the meantime.
Cancel only clears the message. If the relay is still stuck closed, the supervisor detects it again and shows F1 within about 16 seconds. That repeat is the clue we look for.
Because a relay may be stuck closed, switching the breaker off is the cautious choice until a technician has checked the range and told you what is happening.
No. The RDF and REF ranges use F1 for stuck buttons or a stuck latch switch. Check your model number before comparing the two. The two codes are unrelated.
Our technician checks it in your home and hands you a written price before touching anything.
