The glowing ring around each knob on the SGSX365FS is easy to like, and it is also one of the things we get asked about most when a ring goes dark. The ring is a lighting circuit separate from the gas, so a dark knob does not mean the burner is unsafe, but it is a clue about the wiring behind the control panel.
Our visit starts with the 18,000 BTU center burner, since it carries the most gas, and we check flame color and height. A yellow flame often means a partly blocked port or an air-mixture problem. Then we go through the other four burners and the ExtraLow simmer, and confirm the 15 A, 120 V supply is steady.
For this 36-inch model, Thermador lists SGSX365TS as the successor.
The ring light is a separate circuit. A loose connector or a failed light is the likely cause, and the burner is not affected.
Usually grease or debris in the burner ports. We clean it and check gas pressure and the air mixture.
Yes, we unplug the unit and close the gas shutoff before any work.
