It is normal. Thermador's own documentation explains what triggers the 12:00 display, and re-entering your time and settings is the whole cure.
According to Thermador’s documentation, a 12:00 display is the result of a power failure, or of the unit having been switched off with its own power switch. It is not an error condition. Nothing inside the machine is broken, and the coffee machine has simply lost the time it was keeping.
Once the time and your preferences are put back in after either event, the 12:00 readout goes away.
Thermador’s guidance is to avoid the Off option in the clock menu, since that is one of the documented triggers, along with an actual power interruption. Skipping that option will save you from setting the clock again and again.
A flickering or tripped breaker can also cause repeated resets, so if 12:00 returns without any outage or button press, note when it happens.
If the machine will not accept your settings, or the display stays blank or frozen, that goes beyond a clock reset and deserves a look. Our 12:00 entry explains the documented behavior, and the coffee machine repair page lists what we service.
Because the machine keeps no clock through an outage, it is a good idea to glance at it after any storm or breaker trip. Setting it right away avoids a scheduled brew starting at the wrong hour.
