What E8204 means

If you cook with the wireless cooking sensor and E8204 shows up, the sensor is telling you its power is nearly gone. Thermador documents it for induction cooktops as a nearly drained sensor battery. The cooktop itself is fine; the little accessory just needs fresh power to keep reporting temperatures. Until the battery is swapped, sensor-guided cooking may stop reporting.

Usual causes of E8204

  • Ordinary wear on the battery inside the wireless cooking sensor
✓ A safe check worth trying

1. Take the sensor off the cooktop and away from heat. 2. Open its battery cover as shown in the manual. 3. Insert a new 3V CR2032 coin cell, matching the polarity. 4. Close the cover, place the sensor back and test it.

! Why you should stop here
  • A coin cell is meant to be swapped by the owner, so a technician is not needed for this one.
  • Fresh coin cells are cheap and available almost anywhere, so a repair visit would cost more than the fix.
Taking off a panel yourself does not by default void a manufacturer warranty, yet it can lead to accidental damage, and some manufacturers attach their own service terms. Read your warranty paperwork, or ask us, before you decide.

E8204E8204 questions
What battery does the sensor take?

A 3V CR2032 coin cell, the common flat battery sold in most stores. Follow the manual for opening the cover and the correct direction to install it.

Can E8204 make my cooktop stop heating?

No. The cooking zones run independently of the sensor accessory, so only the sensor-assisted cooking feature is affected until the battery is replaced. Everything else on the cooktop carries on as normal.

I changed the battery and still get a message. What now?

Then look at E8205 and E8206, which describe a lost connection or a failing sensor. A new battery that does not help means the sensor or its pairing needs attention.
