Thermador’s widest current gas rangetop spans 48 inches. The PCG486WD holds a built-in griddle alongside six sealed burners. Its rating is 108,000 BTU on natural gas and 90,000 on LP, and it adds ExtraLow simmer. Pan supports, the plate and island trim are all supplied.
Size creates two kinds of calls. One kind involves the whole top: several burners performing poorly at once, which sends us to the incoming gas supply and the regulator. The other kind is local: a burner with an unsteady flame, or a griddle with a hot or cold patch, where we clean and realign the burner tube, cap or port in question.
We ask a simple question to decide which kind of call we are on: does the problem follow one burner, or does it appear whenever the unit works hard? The answer tells us whether to start at the pipe or at the burner.
If one burner misbehaves, the cause is local. If several weaken together, especially when you cook with many burners at once, the supply line or regulator is more likely.
A hot or cold patch normally means the burner tube beneath the plate needs cleaning or has shifted out of alignment, so the flame does not spread evenly under the griddle.
Its size and gas draw make line sizing important. We check that the incoming supply and regulator suit the full load, since an install that was marginal can look like a burner defect later.
