Thermador SGSXP305TS
At the top of Thermador’s 30-inch gas cooktop lineup sits the SGSXP305TS, which brings two separate burner designs onto one surface. Five pedestal burners, with a QuickClean Base under each for easier wiping, deliver 54,000 BTU on natural gas and an 18,000 BTU middle burner, while two ExtraLow burners cover the gentle end.
Having two systems side by side makes the first question on a visit simple: which one is acting up? Pedestal burners that sputter tend to have spill residue or corrosion under the raised base. An ExtraLow burner that won’t hold its simmer is almost always a problem in that burner’s own knob and valve assembly, far from the gas line.
Isolating the affected burner type early saves time and keeps the repair narrow, so we compare a misbehaving burner against a healthy neighbor of the same kind before deciding what to open.
The two designs fail differently. Pedestal burners suffer from residue and corrosion beneath the raised base, while ExtraLow burners suffer from knob and valve wear. Comparing like with like shows which system is involved.
You may notice crusty discoloration or green-white deposits around the igniter and base, along with sparking that is weak or intermittent. We clean it, and replace the igniter if the damage is real.
Seldom. When the other burners hold a steady flame, the supply is fine, so the cause nearly always sits in the specific ExtraLow control, where we test the knob, valve stem and burner.
