Thermador PRG364JDG

What we most often repair on units like this

  1. Oven that preheats but the gas flame cycles off too early
  2. Griddle burner that heats one side more than the other
  3. Convection fan with a grinding or clicking sound
  4. Digital display that dims, flickers or shows partial characters
  5. Temperature sensor that reads off, so food browns unevenly

With its built-in griddle and 22,000 BTU burner, the PRG364JDG draws in households that cook a lot on the cooktop and still want a big 5.7 cu ft oven underneath. It is listed on thermador.com as no longer available, with the PRG364WDG shown as the successor.

A gas range that runs on 120 V depends on two things working together: a flame that lights and a bake igniter that draws enough current to open the valve. In a call for poor baking, we put a meter on the igniter first, then look at the temperature sensor, because a drifting sensor will fool the control into shutting the flame off.

The griddle and the Pedestal Star burner each get a flame-pattern check, since one blocked port can make a burner uneven. We also check the 3-prong plug and outlet, as a loose connection can make the display and convection fan act up even though the gas side is fine.

PRG364JDGPRG364JDG questions
My oven takes much longer to heat than it used to. What is usually behind that?

Most often a weak bake igniter that still glows but no longer draws enough current to open the gas valve fully. We measure it and check the temperature sensor before replacing anything.

Can the griddle be used if one burner will not light?

We advise waiting. A burner that will not light can be a clogged port or a failing igniter, and running the other burner unevenly heats the plate. Gas should never be forced to light.

Why is the display flickering when the oven is on?

The display and control run on the 120 V supply, so a loose plug, a worn outlet or a failing control board can all cause it. We check the power path before the board.
