Pedestal Star Burners stand on a raised base, with Thermador’s QuickClean Base underneath to make wiping easier. That is the main difference between the SGSP305TS and the sealed-top SGS models, and it shapes how we approach repairs: five burners rated 54,000 BTU on natural gas, an 18,000 BTU middle burner, but a layout that lets spills travel where a sealed top would stop them.
A burner that lights some days and not others is a classic result. Liquid creeps beneath the base, reaches the igniter, and leaves moisture or residue that causes poor sparking and, over time, corrosion. So before we look at valves or regulators, we lift the burner and inspect the base and the igniter.
If the center burner seems weak, we clean its pedestal port first. That one step settles more weak-flame calls than any gas-supply adjustment.
Liquid can slip under the raised burner base and reach the igniter. Moisture or residue there interrupts the spark, and left alone it can corrode the electrode, so cleaning promptly matters.
Usually not first. A blocked port on the 18,000 BTU center burner is the likelier cause, so we clean it before testing the regulator or the gas supply.
The burner parts lift off for wiping, but keep the gas off and the cooktop cool, and refit every piece exactly as it came out. If a burner will not sit flat afterward, call us.
