What F2 means

Here F2 carries the older generation's wording, which differs from today's Thermador induction cooktops, where F2 reports overheated electronics. On older Masterpiece units named CIT304GB, CIT304GM, CIT365GB, CIT365GM and CIS365GB, the display shows F2 after the element got too hot and switched itself off. It is a safety shut-off, and the cooktop normally returns once the surface has cooled.

Usual causes of F2

  • Pan left empty or boiled dry on the element
  • Prolonged high-power use heating the element
  • Hot cookware sitting on a zone that has already shut off
✓ A safe check worth trying

1. Remove all pans from the cooktop. 2. Let the element cool completely before touching the surface. 3. Press the display once to clear F2. 4. If F2 returns, the cooktop is still too hot; wait longer and do not restart cooking until it cools.

! Why you should stop here
  • Repeated shut-offs after a full cool-down point to a failing temperature sensor or board.
  • Heat protection on these units cannot be tested safely without meters.
  • We give a written price first, and confirm parts by model number for older appliances.
Taking off a panel yourself does not by default void a manufacturer warranty, yet it can lead to accidental damage, and some manufacturers attach their own service terms. Read your warranty paperwork, or ask us, before you decide.

F2F2 questions
Does F2 here match the F2 on newer cooktops?

No. This older table says the element is too hot and has turned off. Current Thermador induction cooktops use F2 for overheated electronics, so the cause and cure may differ.

Why won't F2 clear when I press the display?

If you press the display and F2 comes back, the cooktop is still too hot. Remove the pans, let it cool longer, and try again. A code that never clears after hours needs a technician.

Is it dangerous to ignore F2?

F2 is the cooktop protecting itself, so the shut-off is doing its job. Ignoring repeated cases is unwise, because something is making the element run hotter than it should.
