Gas and electric sharing one top is what made the CGX365 unusual, and Thermador no longer builds anything like it. The 36-inch top pairs gas burners with radiant elements under glass-ceramic, and the gas burners include ExtraLow-rated ones ranging from about 300 up to 11,000 BTU/HR. One manual covers it together with the all-electric CD365 and CD456.
In practice we service it as two appliances on one surface. Gas-side trouble, such as a fouled igniter, a crooked cap or valve wear, runs the way it does on any Thermador gas cooktop. The electric side has its own list: a dead element, a stuck knob, or glass that has suffered from the wrong cleaner.
So the first question is which side misbehaves. Answering it keeps the diagnosis narrow and the quote honest, and it tells us whether a gas or an electrical repair is waiting.
The gas and electric sides share only a surface. Their causes and repairs differ completely, so naming the affected side focuses the diagnosis and prevents wasted effort.
Thermador's guidance for this model says a brief run on HI burns off light residue from the radiant elements. A zone that looks dull or stained is therefore not necessarily dead.
Thermador's current lineup has no combined gas and electric cooktop, so a replacement means choosing a different design. We discuss the repair option first and put any price in writing.
