Opening the control housing exposes line-voltage wiring and can disturb parts unrelated to the problem. Here is why we advise against it and what is safe to do instead.
We would advise against it, and not only as a disclaimer. The control boards in a Thermador oven are mounted near wiring that carries line voltage. The housing is meant to be opened only after the circuit breaker has been shut off, which is more than unplugging it or switching it off at a wall control.
Even a careful person can unseat a connector without noticing, and the oven then fails in a new way that is harder to trace than the first.
If you want to do something, make it the harmless one:
With that information written down, the technician does not have to spend time trying to make the problem happen again. Photos of the display help as well.
We shut off power at the breaker, confirm it is dead, and test the board and its connections in the right order. Browse our oven repair page for the services we offer.
The same caution applies to taking off back panels or lifting out the oven from its cabinet. Those jobs involve weight, sharp edges, and live connections, and they are best left to people with the tools and training.
