Thermador CIT36XWBB

What we most often repair on units like this

  1. Screen reads "dE" and no zone will heat (demo mode)
  2. A zone fails to recognize the pan sitting on it
  3. A zone overheats and shuts down (F1/F6), or the electronics run too hot (F2/F4)
  4. Touch panel does not respond

Induction cooktops of this size are usually built into an island or counter run where the owner cooks daily, and the glass hides a lot of electronics. The CIT36XWBB speaks through a small set of codes: “dE” for demo mode, F1 and F6 when a zone overheats, F2 and F4 when the electronics overheat, and F5 when a pan sits too close to the control panel.

Most of those messages describe how the cooktop is protecting itself, not a broken part. So the first thing we do is read the code on the display and compare it with the meaning Thermador publishes, then look at pan placement, ventilation around the unit, and panel cleanliness before suggesting a replacement.

Because the model number was drawn from product-page image data and not from written body text, we ask to see the rating plate before ordering anything specific to this unit.

Key features

  • 36-inch induction cooktop
  • Touch-control electronics that detect cookware on each zone
  • The model number came from image metadata on Thermador's own product page rather than a body-text SKU, the same lower-confidence sourcing note that applies to the SGSP365TS

CIT36XWBBCIT36XWBB questions
My cooktop shows "dE" and nothing heats. Is it broken?

Usually not. "dE" is demo mode, a display-only state meant for showroom use, and it blocks heating on purpose. It can often be cleared through the panel, and if it keeps returning we look at the power-up sequence.

Why would an induction zone shut itself off mid-boil?

An F1 or F6 code means that zone's overheat protection tripped, often from an empty or thin pan or poor airflow beneath the unit. Let it cool fully, then retest with a heavy, flat-bottomed induction pan.

What does F5 mean?

F5 is Thermador's code for cookware detected too close to the control panel. Moving the pan away from the touch area normally resolves it. If F5 appears with the glass clear of pans, the sensor needs a closer look.
