Thermador PRG366JG

What we most often repair on units like this

  1. Burner that sparks repeatedly with no flame, with one or two of six affected
  2. Oven flame that goes out partway through a long bake
  3. Telescopic rack that sticks or rolls unevenly
  4. Self-clean cycle that stops with the door locked
  5. Fan that vibrates in convection mode

Six burners across 36 inches puts a lot of fire on the cooktop, and the 159,000 BTU total rating on the PRG366JG is the first fact we keep in mind. That much gas means the supply line size and pressure matter more than on a four-burner model, so a low-flame complaint can start behind the wall rather than on the range.

The oven is 5.7 cu ft with three telescopic racks and True Convection, and it runs on a small 120 V, 15 A circuit. Thermador shows this model as no longer available and lists the PRG366WG as its successor, so our first visit also includes a look at the plug, the outlet and the condition of the burner caps.

When a single burner fails to light, we compare it with its neighbors: if the others light fine, the cause is local, such as a port or an electrode. If several are affected, we measure supply pressure with all six burners running.

PRG366JGPRG366JG questions
One of my six burners will not light but the rest do. Is the gas supply the cause?

Probably not. When only one burner is affected, it is normally a clogged port, a dirty or damaged spark electrode or a cap out of position. We check those before looking at the supply.

Why does the oven flame sometimes go out during long bakes?

A weak igniter or a drifting temperature sensor can cause the control to close the valve early. We measure igniter current and compare the sensor reading with a probe thermometer.

How can I tell whether my range needs a larger gas line?

Weak flames on several burners when others are on point to limited supply. We measure pressure with all burners lit and report it, but gas line changes must be done by a licensed plumber.
