SGN36G

Thermador SGN36G

What we most often repair on units like this

  1. A gas odor means closing the supply first, then cleaning the igniters, since boil-over or debris is the commonest reason a burner on this series will not spark dependably
  2. All igniters spark together when any one burner is turned on, so clicking everywhere with no gas smell is expected
  3. On a Cook'n'Vent version, weak suction is typically a clogged or soiled filter and not a failing blower motor

The Traditional Series gave Thermador owners a sealed-burner gas cooktop with no electronics to puzzle over, and the SGN36G is a 36-inch example. Standard burners reach 11,000 BTU/HR, lower-output burners sit near 6,500, and electronic spark ignition lights every one. A Cook’n’Vent downdraft version, the SGNCV36G, also exists, and so does an optional Griddle’n Grill accessory that acts as a griddle only on SGN models.

The usual calls are simple ones. An igniter wet or dirty from a boil-over refuses to spark steadily; a burner cap that is not seated evenly produces odd flames; and on Cook’n’Vent units, a soiled filter cuts the draw so that the blower seems weak when it is not.

We check ignition first, then caps, then the filter. All igniters spark together by design, so we separate that from a real ignition problem before we change anything.

SGN36GSGN36G questions
Why do all my burners click when I light just one?

This cooktop fires its igniters together whenever any burner is turned on. If there is no gas smell, that is how it was built to work and not a defect.

The downdraft barely pulls. Is the motor failing?

Usually it is the filter. A soiled or clogged ventilator filter reduces airflow far more often than a worn blower motor does, so we clean or replace the filter first.

What is a Griddle'n Grill accessory limited to on this model?

On SGN cooktops the accessory serves as a griddle only, unlike the SGS version that accepts both griddle and grill inserts. Knowing that avoids ordering the wrong insert.
