F5 can appear even when your cookware does not feel hot. The reason has to do with where the heat is being sensed.
Thermador documents F5 as a detection of hot cookware near the control panel. The detail that surprises people is that it can trigger when the pan does not feel hot at all. What the cooktop watches is the heat near its control strip, and not the whole pan, so a pan that is warm only at one edge can be enough.
Cookware pushed up against the front control edge can trigger it. Large or oversized pots that overhang the zone toward the controls are a common example.
Sliding the pan back from the panel edge and giving the zone time to reset normally gets rid of the message.
If F5 keeps appearing with the pan sitting normally in the middle of the zone, it is no longer a placement issue. At that stage a sensor or control reading may be off, and it is worth a diagnostic visit. We start from the documented meaning, then test the sensing circuit to confirm. You can look up the code on our F5 entry, and see more under cooktop repair.
A hint for daily use: keep handles and wide pot bases turned away from the front of the cooktop, and avoid resting hot lids or utensils near the control strip.
