What F50 means

F50 appears on older Thermador C-series built-in ovens (C271, C272, C301, C302), the CM301 and CM302 convection-and-microwave models, and the CJ302. The service document for these units reads the code as the upper oven door signal being shorted low, so the control no longer trusts what the door and latch are reporting. The oven stops and shows the code. Owners of older, out-of-warranty units often see it after a sticky latch or a worn door switch.

Usual causes of F50

  • Upper oven door or latch switch that is defective or jammed
  • Wiring or connector trouble at the door switch headers on the power/relay board and both boards
  • Power/relay board that has failed
  • Control display board, only after the relay board has been ruled out
✓ A safe check worth trying

1. Touch OFF, or switch the oven off at the circuit breaker. 2. Wait 3 minutes, then switch it back on. 3. If F50 returns, write the code down together with the model number from the oven frame. 4. Do not pry at the upper door latch or open any panel. Call us instead.

! Why you should stop here
  • The door signal lines run through the power/relay board, which needs live-circuit testing
  • Replacing boards by guesswork gets expensive when a latch switch is the real issue
  • Opening the cavity trim on a built-in oven risks hot surfaces and pinched wiring
Taking off a panel yourself does not by default void a manufacturer warranty, yet it can lead to accidental damage, and some manufacturers attach their own service terms. Read your warranty paperwork, or ask us, before you decide.

F50F50 questions
My upper oven door looks fine. Why does F50 still show?

The code is about the electrical signal from the door and latch switches, not how the door looks. A switch can stick or wear while the door closes normally. A technician checks the signal at the board.

Will turning the breaker off fix it for good?

A reset can clear a one-time glitch. If F50 comes back, the door switch circuit still has a problem, and repeated resets will not solve it. Note the code and book a visit.

Is this the same as F50 on newer ovens?

Not necessarily. Our source covers the older C, CM and CJ ovens only. Other Thermador generations can use the same symbol differently, so we confirm the model before quoting.
