Thermador PRD48NCSGU

What we most often repair on units like this

  1. Oven that preheats slowly or stalls below set temperature on one cavity
  2. Gas burner that ignites late or clicks continuously
  3. Self-Clean cycle that locks the door and does not complete
  4. SoftClose hinge that no longer damps the door as it closes
  5. Keep Warm setting that holds too cool for serving

The 28 15/16-inch depth tells you this range was meant to stand proud of the cabinets, so it usually belongs to a kitchen where the cooking line is the visual anchor. The PRD48NCSGU is a legacy dual fuel model; thermador.com now shows it as no longer available, with the PRD48WCSGU named as its successor.

Two electric ovens, 4 cu ft and 1.1 cu ft, run from a 240/208 V, 50 A feed. When one oven underperforms we look at the heating elements, the convection fan and the temperature sensor for that cavity. The Self-Clean mode puts the greatest stress on the door lock and the wiring near the cavity, so a cycle that stops partway gets those checks early.

On top, the Star Burner relies on clean ports and a dry igniter. Since this is an older model, we also note hinge wear on the SoftClose doors and confirm that replacement parts are still obtainable before we quote.

PRD48NCSGUPRD48NCSGU questions
Is a discontinued range like this still worth repairing?

Often yes, since the cavities, burners and cast iron are built to last. We inspect first, give a written price before any work, and tell you plainly if a needed part is hard to source.

Why do the two ovens heat differently?

They are separate cavities of 4 cu ft and 1.1 cu ft with their own elements and sensors. A difference in preheat time may be normal, but a large gap points to one element, sensor or relay.

The oven door no longer closes softly. Is that dangerous?

It is not a safety matter, but the hydraulic SoftClose hinge has stopped damping. We replace the hinge as a pair when needed so the door hangs evenly and the seal stays tight.
