MED302JS

Thermador MED302JS

What we most often repair on units like this

  1. SoftClose hinge that stops damping, so the door drops
  2. Door lock that fails to release after Self-Clean
  3. CookSmart program that fails halfway or gives wrong timing
  4. Convection fan noise or intermittent stop
  5. Lower oven slow to preheat
  6. Childproof lock that stays engaged and blocks the controls

At 4.7 cu. ft. in each cavity, the MED302JS is a large double oven, and the capacity makes it a workhorse in family kitchens. Its Masterpiece handle and black-trimmed stainless front mark it as part of the J-series, with SoftClose hinges on the drop-down doors and an electronic door lock that engages for cleaning.

Those hinges are the first thing we examine when an owner says the door started slamming. The lock is the next: the electronic latch coordinates with the 2-Hour Self-Clean cycle, and a latch that fails to let go after a clean keeps the oven unusable. A childproof lock that has been switched on accidentally causes a surprising number of calls, so we check that too.

Electrically, 8000 watts and 40 amps on 240/208 volts has to be delivered cleanly. We measure line voltage, test each cavity’s sensor and element, and run CookSmart programs only when they are the complaint. Written pricing arrives before parts are ordered.

MED302JSMED302JS questions
The oven controls will not respond. Is the lock on?

The childproof lock could be engaged, which disables the panel. Hold the lock key as the manual describes. If nothing changes, we test the control board and the power it receives.

Why does the door not unlock after Self-Clean?

The electronic lock needs to cool and release; if the latch motor or switch has stuck, the door stays shut. We test the latch circuit and free the mechanism rather than forcing the door.

What can cause a CookSmart program to give wrong cook times?

Usually a temperature sensor reading off or the probe misreporting, because the programs rely on those inputs. We verify real cavity temperature before blaming the program.
