Thermador DWHD661EFM (Masterpiece Collection)
As the Masterpiece take on a Star Sapphire spec, the 661EFM is the quiet one: 42 dBA with StarDry drying and a softener that the 640 and 660 Masterpiece versions do not have. The bar handle is fixed hardware, in place of the Professional handle on the 661EFP.
Owners often report that glassware looks cloudy or dishes feel gritty, and assume a pump issue. On this model we ask about the softener first. An unfilled salt reservoir or a softener that is not regenerating is a maintenance item, separate from a drain or inflow problem, even though poor softening can look like general wash trouble. After that we move to the Zeolite chamber and fan if E2120 or E2130 appears, and to the filter and pump for drainage codes.
Look for a low-salt indicator, shown on the display or within the Home Connect app on most units. The paperwork that came with the dishwasher names the exact indicator for this model.
It conditions water for the wash cycle only. Whether you also want softening for the rest of the home depends on how hard your local water runs.
Possibly, but salt is the cheaper thing to rule out first. If the reservoir is full and the softener regenerates, we move on to the wash and drain side.
