With F53, an older Thermador C-series, CM-series or CJ302 oven reports that the upper door is stuck in the locked position. Owners usually find the door will not release after a clean cycle or a power blip. The service document ties it to the latch switches in the upper door area, which is why the oven refuses to carry on until the lock state resets.
1. Let the oven cool completely first. 2. Touch OFF or switch the breaker off, wait 3 minutes, and restore power. 3. Give the door a few minutes to release on its own once power returns. 4. If it stays locked or F53 comes back, do not pull on it. Write down the code and call us.
It can be. F53 means the control sees the upper door as stuck locked. Keep clear of the handle, allow cooling, try the power reset, and call if the door stays shut.
Wait the full three minutes with power off, then give the door a short time after restoring power. If it still sits locked, further waiting will not help.
Not always. A latch can jam after a cycle and free itself on reset. A repeat of F53 points to a worn switch or latch that we would test.
Our technician checks it in your home and hands you a written price before touching anything.
