Thermador MEDMCW31JS

What we most often repair on units like this

  1. Top microwave cavity that does not heat, a magnetron or high-voltage item
  2. Middle oven that heats slowly or cuts out
  3. Warming drawer that stays cold or will not slide
  4. Touch panel that ignores input or beeps
  5. Self-Clean that leaves the door latched
  6. Door gasket or hinge wear causing heat leakage

Three cavities in one stack is the job description of the MEDMCW31JS, and it shows in what can go wrong. At the top is a 1.5 cu. ft. microwave and convection oven with 7 modes. The middle is a 2.0 cu. ft. oven with 13 modes, from 3D hot air to Dehydrate and Proof. At the bottom sits a warming drawer. You normally find this in a kitchen where the microwave, oven and drawer were meant to share one column.

Each cavity is its own repair. A top-cavity microwave that runs but does not warm food involves the magnetron and high-voltage circuit, handled with care. A middle oven that is slow or cold involves the element, sensor and fan. The bottom warming drawer has its own heater and its own thermal protection.

With a stack this tall, one touch control manages all three, so we separate a control problem from a heating problem before ordering parts. Clean-cycle latch problems in the middle oven are common too. Quotes come in writing, and the work carries a 30-day workmanship warranty.

MEDMCW31JSMEDMCW31JS questions
The microwave section runs, but food stays cold. Is it safe to keep using?

No. A running microwave that does not heat can mean a failed magnetron or diode, and some of those parts store charge. Stop using that cavity until we test it with the unit unplugged.

Is the warming drawer serviced separately from the ovens?

Yes. It has its own heater, thermostat and slide, so we can test and repair it without touching the ovens above, though we check the shared panel and supply on the same visit.

Why does my touch panel respond to some cavities but not others?

The control may be fine and a single cavity's relay or sensor may be failing. We test each cavity individually to see if the board is the issue before replacing it.
