What F2 means

F2 on older Thermador SC, SCD, SM and SMW ovens is tied to self-cleaning. After an hour into the cycle, the control detected a temperature at the oven sensor, or the door light coming on, that it did not expect. It then stops the cycle. Because a cleaning cycle runs very hot, treat F2 as a code to have checked before you try cleaning again.

Usual causes of F2

  • Intermittent oven sensor or main power/relay board
  • Oven latch switches that need checking
  • Door light circuit that comes on unexpectedly
  • Oven sensor that does not read about 1050 ohms at the molex plug
✓ A safe check worth trying

1. Cancel the cycle with OFF and let the oven cool completely. 2. Reset power at the breaker for 3 minutes. 3. Do not run another cleaning cycle. 4. Record F2 and your model number and call us. Leave the sensor plug alone.

! Why you should stop here
  • Cleaning temperatures are high, so a misread sensor is a real risk
  • The source expects about 1050 ohms at the sensor plug, which needs a meter
  • Latch, door light and sensor all feed this code and must be separated by testing
Taking off a panel yourself does not by default void a manufacturer warranty, yet it can lead to accidental damage, and some manufacturers attach their own service terms. Read your warranty paperwork, or ask us, before you decide.

F2F2 questions
Why does F2 mention the door light?

In the self-clean routine, the control also watches the door light circuit. A light coming on at that stage is a reading it flags with F2.

Is it safe to bake after F2?

We would wait for the sensor check. If the sensor reads wrong, bake temperatures can be off too, even if cooking seems to start normally.

What is the 1050 ohms figure?

It is the expected sensor resistance at room temperature from the service document. A technician compares your reading to it at the molex plug. Tell us whether it happened during baking or cleaning.

Is F2 still showing?

Our technician checks it in your home and hands you a written price before touching anything.
