Steam on the MEDS301BS comes from a 45 oz tank that lifts out, since the oven has no plumbed water line. This is a 30-inch single steam-convection model with 17 heating modes and a 2.8 cu ft interior, drawing 3,950 watts at 240/208V over a 20A circuit. That is a lighter load than Thermador’s standard double ovens, which makes sense for one cavity.
Owners sometimes hunt for a self-clean button and cannot find one. The reason is that Thermador gave this oven an Ecolytic Cleaning Program, unlike the 2-Hour Self-Clean on its non-steam ovens. Not seeing a high-heat cycle is therefore no defect.
When we arrive, the tank comes first: is it seated squarely? Next we look for scale in the steam generator and water path, the other steam-specific item worth ruling out where water is hard. We finish with the door seal and the Multi-Point probe.
Through a tank you can lift out, rated at 45 oz, rather than a plumbed line. Keep it seated firmly and refill it as your manual directs; a loose tank is a common reason for a fill alert.
There isn't one. Thermador designed this oven around an Ecolytic Cleaning Program, which differs from the 2-Hour Self-Clean cycle on the brand's non-steam wall ovens, so no high-heat burn is expected.
Scale builds up where water is hard and can disrupt steam production. We check for it early on any steam oven call, and clearing it is a routine part of the service.
