What E3100 means

A float switch in the base tray has risen with collected water, and the leak protection system shut the dishwasher down. E3100 is how four-digit boards display what older short-code units show as E15. Both Thermador documents open with the same instruction, which is to turn off the water. The machine stopped itself to protect your kitchen, and the leak has to be found before anything else is tried.

Usual causes of E3100

  • A hose clamp, the sump or a seal weeping slowly until the tray filled
  • A hardened door gasket letting wash water out along the sill
  • A float switch lifted by debris that reports water no longer present
✓ A safe check worth trying

SAFETY FIRST. 1. Start by turning off the valve that supplies the dishwasher. 2. When water has spread beyond the machine onto the floor, also switch its circuit off at the electrical panel. 3. Arrange the service call only after that. 4. Resist the urge to run one more cycle as a test.

! Why you should stop here
  • The shutdown has already happened for a reason; overriding it lets a minor drip grow into damaged flooring and cabinets.
  • Locating the leak requires tilting the machine, which is done only after the supply is off and the tray is emptied.
  • From the front, a jammed float and a real leak are indistinguishable, yet only the real one is urgent.
Taking off a panel yourself does not by default void a manufacturer warranty, yet it can lead to accidental damage, and some manufacturers attach their own service terms. Read your warranty paperwork, or ask us, before you decide.

E3100E3100 questions
My floor is dry. Should I still close the valve?

Yes. The tray can hold a good deal of water before any reaches the room, and catching it at that point is exactly what the switch is for.

Is E3100 another name for E15?

In effect, yes. Both refer to water in the base, but older short-code boards display E15 while four-digit boards display E3100. Nothing is replaced before the test confirms it.

May I lift the machine to look underneath?

Please do not. Tilting it with water in the base and the supply open is risky. We do it with the water off and a plan to protect your floor.
