PODC302J

Thermador PODC302J

What we most often repair on units like this

  1. Upper oven broil element not heating across the full width
  2. Rotisserie motor stalled
  3. Lower oven slow to preheat
  4. Latch that does not release after Self-Clean
  5. Convection fans noisy in one cavity
  6. CookSmart programs finishing too early

Cooks who bought the PODC302J usually wanted a double oven that could also spit-roast. The upper cavity is the busy one: 4.7 cu. ft., 13 modes, a rotisserie and a Full-width variable broil, backed by a 4,800 watt Maxbroil. The lower cavity, also 4.7 cu. ft., handles baking, Proof and Pizza. Thermador names PODS302W as its successor.

The heavy lifting is electrical: 9000 watts at 40 amps through 240/208 volts. When broil seems weak, we look at the element, the relay and the supply, in that order, because a sagging leg reduces Maxbroil output while the oven seems to run normally.

The rotisserie motor and spit socket get a mechanical check. The electronic door lock and SoftClose hinges complete the inspection, especially if a Self-Clean cycle is part of the story. We discuss the repair and the written price before a part is ordered.

PODC302JPODC302J questions
The broil element only glows in the center. Is that normal?

Full-width variable broil should heat the whole element. Uneven glow often means a failed section or loose terminal. We test the element resistance and the connection.

What is the successor to this oven?

Thermador names PODS302W as the successor. It is a steam model, so we would verify the cutout, the electrical rating and any water requirements before deciding it fits.

Why is my lower oven slower to preheat than the upper?

The bake element, sensor or supply to the lower cavity is the usual cause. We measure element current and compare the cavity to the reference thermometer to pick the right fix.
